An Operating System is the software that communicates with the hardware of a computer and functions as the intermediary between apps and the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run an app, it transfers requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the interaction is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Similar to a personal computer, web servers also have an Operating System which acts as a host for all of the software installed on them, including script apps or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, and so on. A virtual machine can be created on a physical one, so you can install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast to the physical server host Operating System.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
Our VPS server plans come with three Linux distributions which you can choose from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Apart from being absolutely free, the OSs are really stable and secure and the key reason to offer you the three of them is to ensure that you will be able to run each application that you'd like, as different pieces of software may have different requirements about the environment they work on. Each one of the three OSs is supported by a vast community of developers who have made many hundreds of software packages which you can install and use on your VPS. In accordance with the Operating System which you choose, you will also be able to choose between 3 different Control Panels to take care of your hosting content. Needless to say, if you decide that you need some other OS, we can always re-install the server with it. As a paid upgrade, we also offer weekly updates of the Operating System for optimum stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
If you decide to obtain one of our dedicated servers, you will find three Operating Systems on the registration page since we want to give you a broader choice for the system environment on your server as different applications could have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a stable and risk-free Internet hosting service. Based on your choice, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System if the one you've selected at first doesn't meet the requirements of the software which you want to run. We can also update the OS regularly in order to keep it as risk-free as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
